About Pass and Play Games

Free classic board games for people sitting together, sharing one screen.

Last updated

Pass and Play Games started with a simple situation: two people, one phone and nothing to play. Most game sites assume everyone has their own device, an account and a good connection. We wanted the opposite. Open a page, type two names, and play a proper board game on the device you already have in your hand.

What you will find here

Every game is built for pass and play: players take turns on the same phone, tablet or computer. An optional pass screen appears between turns so the next player knows it is their move and nobody taps the board by accident. When you are on your own, a game with a computer opponent lets you choose how strongly the computer plays.

Every game comes with a plain-English rules guide and a beginner tutorial, and the blog has game night ideas, history and strategy.

How it works

  • Free and private. There are no accounts, no sign-up and no tracking. Read the privacy policy for the details.
  • Works offline. After your first visit the whole site is stored on your device by your browser, so the games keep working with no internet connection.
  • Saves as you go. Your current game is saved in your browser after every move, so a refresh or a closed tab doesn’t lose it.
  • Installable. You can add the site to your home screen and open it like an app.

How we check the rules

Each game’s rules are written as code that is tested move by move: legal moves, special rules, wins and draws, and the awkward edge cases. Where a game has several common rule sets, the rules guide says which one this site uses. The computer players are tested so that they only ever make legal moves.
