Play Would You Rather on one phone, tablet or laptop. A card shows two options, everyone picks one, and the phone shows how the group split. Choose a quick show of hands, or a secret vote where the phone goes round and nobody sees your pick until the reveal. There are four decks of would you rather questions, for kids, families, friends and work, and you can add your own. It works for 2 to 12 players, it is free, it needs no sign-up, and it keeps working offline once the page has loaded.
How to play Would You Rather
- Type in 2 to 12 names, pick the decks and the voting, and press Start.
- One person reads the card out loud: “Would you rather fly like a bird or swim like a fish?” The reader changes every round.
- Show of hands: everyone who picks A raises a hand, the reader taps how many, then Reveal. Everyone else picked B.
- Secret vote: tap Vote in secret and pass the phone round. Each person taps A or B alone.
- The phone shows the split: how many chose each side and, after a secret vote, who chose what. Talk it over, then tap Next card.
- Rather not answer a card? The reader taps Skip. Everyone gets the same number of skips.
- After your rounds, or when you tap End, you see the card you agreed on most and the closest call. Nobody wins and nobody loses.
The complete would you rather rules cover both kinds of voting, house rules and sample pairs from every deck.
A show of hands or a secret vote
A show of hands is the quickest way to play. The phone lies on the table, the reader counts the hands for A, and the next card is ready in seconds. It suits big groups, classrooms and car journeys where the talking matters more than the tally.
A secret vote is for the cards that make people hesitate. The phone goes round the table, and before each person picks, a pass screen hides the card so nobody can see how the others voted. When the last person has voted, the table sees the names under each side. It is surprisingly revealing: friends who always agree out loud sometimes don’t when nobody is watching.
Either way, Undo takes back the whole last round, and on a laptop you can play from the keyboard: number keys for the count, A or B for a secret vote, Enter to reveal or go on, and S to skip.
Would you rather questions for every group
- Kids (6–12): playful choices about animals, food, magic and school days, like having a pet penguin or a pet koala.
- Family: for all ages at once, from holidays and homes to small superpowers, like living by the sea or in the mountains.
- Friends (teens+): travel, music, films and everyday dilemmas, still clean, like watching every sunset for a year or every sunrise.
- Work: light questions about desks, meetings and team life that any manager could read out, like walking meetings or meetings on comfy sofas.
Each deck has over 120 original pairs, and you can mix decks. A card never comes up twice in one game, and the game remembers about 200 cards from your recent games on this device, so it deals fresh ones first.
Your own pairs
Tap Add my prompts on the setup screen to write pairs for your group: choices about a trip you just took, your class, your team or your family’s favorite things. Pick the My prompts deck to play them. They are saved in this browser on this device.
Quick tips
- Ask one person to explain their pick after each reveal. The reasons are the best part.
- Use a secret vote for the cards that split the room, and hands for the rest.
- Keep it kind: anyone can skip a card, and nobody has to explain why.
The would you rather hosting tips help you choose decks, write your own pairs and keep the conversation going.
